Certificate in Editing

The Certificate in Editing Program provided me a comprehensive foundation in developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, and collaborative work with authors. Throughout the three-course program, I developed the technical skills and editorial judgment needed to bolster manuscripts while preserving each writer's voice and style. Beyond editing techniques, the program also strengthened my editorial judgment—knowing not only how to make a manuscript stronger, but when to step back and allow an author's voice to lead. Those principles continue to guide every project I take on, from developmental feedback to final line edits.

Building on my editing foundation, the Developmental Editing Course focused on the science and art of shaping manuscripts at the structural level. Through the evaluation of an unpublished manuscript, I gained hands-on experience conducting manuscript consultations, writing editorial letters, and guiding authors through meaningful revision. The specialization challenged me to think beyond identifying problems and instead develop practical, actionable revision strategies. It reinforced that my best editing comes from asking thoughtful questions and helping authors discover solutions as it is about offering my own recommendations.

Specialization in Developmental Editing

To better understand the memoir-writing process from the author's perspective, as well as begin my own journey as a memoirist, I completed the Memoir Writing Course. Through workshops, revisions, and the study of diverse memoirs, I explored how personal experiences can be transformed into compelling narratives that resonate for wide audiences while remaining authentic to the writer's voice. Writing memoir myself gave me a deeper appreciation for the vulnerability and skill required to tell personal stories. That perspective helps me approach memoir with empathy, respecting both the emotional weight of the material and the author's ownership of their story.
