Editing
-
1. Consultation and Manuscript Submission
We’ll have a brief consultation to meet each other and talk about your manuscript. Together, we will establish the editing scope, timeline, and cost to ensure transparency and alignment. Then, you’ll submit your manuscript for editing, along with the first payment. Please refrain from sending new versions unless absolutely necessary.
-
2. Terra’s First Revision
I will create a copy of your manuscript and complete the first round of edits. Along with the revised document, you’ll receive a version with tracked changes, a clean copy with all changes accepted, a style sheet for consistency, and a cover letter that highlights key remarks and queries.
-
3. Author’s First Review
You’ll review the first revision, ideally within a week while my feedback is fresh. If needed, we can meet to discuss my edits before you resubmit your manuscript along with the remaining half of the payment.
-
4. Terra’s Second Revision
I will provide a second revision, taking your feedback into consideration. The second revision is usually much quicker than the first.
-
5. Author’s Second Review
You'll review the changes one more time. By now, your manuscript will have transformed into something that reflects the hard work you (and I!) have put into making your written copy shine!
-
6. Discussion and Final Steps
Additional revisions can always be arranged if needed. After the editing process, we can provide any final feedback to each other about our collaboration. Honest reviews are appreciated! My last duty as your editor will be to check in on you and purchase your book once it hits the shelves!
-
For smaller projects like résumés, blogs, or online profiles, I usually have enough information from the intake form to begin editing as soon as we finalize a work agreement. If I have any questions, I will include them with my first revision for you to review.
-
For larger or more intricate projects that require closer collaboration, we may schedule a virtual meeting to discuss details before editing begins. During this meeting, we’ll cover:
The subject matter and any relevant context
Your audience and the experience you want to create for them
Your preferred communication methods
The type of feedback you’re looking for
Milestones, deadlines, and budget
Once we’ve outlined these details, I’ll prepare a work agreement to ensure we’re aligned throughout the process.

I focus on three key aspects to enhance your writing, including:
Preserving your unique voice, style, and tone
Highlighting your writing strengths
Supporting areas where your writing can grow
Of course, I will edit for grammar, but my editing philosophy is that meaning drives grammar, not the other way around. I aim to honor your lived experiences while ensuring clarity, flow, and impact for your readers. For more on my editing philosophy, please see my About Me section.
